Mangalore, Aug 22: 'Nirmala Mangaluru Abhiyana'-'Keep Mangalore Clean and Green Campaign' was initiated by the Shivbagh Public Welfare Society, here on Thursday August 22 near St Agnes College Mangalore.
The campaign was inaugurated in a unique way with J R Lobo, Mangalore South MLA who dumped a basket of waste into the dustbin.
Students of the school and college along with the public, joined hands in this campaign to convert Mangalore into a greener and cleaner city.
Speaking to the media, J R Lobo said "in order to keep our city green, we must first learn to keep our surroundings clean. Proper waste management is the main aspect that plays a vital role in keeping our surroundings clean."
"The MCC officials or the administration solely cannot keep our city clean. It the public who have to support this cause, join hands with the public and see to it that our surrounding is clean and tidy. Harmful waste, especially plastic have been avoided upto a maximum extent and so also the organic wastes have been transformed into fertilizers, so as to avoid an over load of waste in the Pacchanady dumping yards as well.
"Full support and positive response from the public is a must to keep our city clean and green," he added.
The waste bins, to support the cause, were sponsored by Louis Lobo, MD, Paramount Reality and Infrastructures.
Corporators Sabitha Misquith, Naveen D’Souza, leaders Judith Mascarenhas, T K Sudhir, Nelson Montheiro, Cyril, Mohan Mendon, Jayakar, Samartha, Shanthi, Mohan, entrepenuer Louis Lobo (Ex-Kuwait) and others were present.
