New Delhi/Chandigarh, Aug 9 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday filed a charge-sheet against Haryana legislators Om Prakash Jain and Zile Ram Sharma for abetting the suicide of a former village sarpanch in the state's Karnal district.
The investigating agency filed the charge sheet in the court of special judicial magistrate, CBI, Panchkula in Haryana against Jain, legislator from Panipat and a former transport minister, his aide Rajender Sharma and Zile Ram, who represents Assand.
The charge sheet was filed in a case relating to the unnatural death of Karam Singh, ex-sarpanch of Kambopura village of Karnal in Haryana.
"The agency framed charges of abetment of suicide," said a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official.
The case was registered by CBI Sep 25, 2012 after the order of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Earlier the case was registered June 7, 2011 at Civil Lines police station in Karnal relating to the alleged murder of Singh.
The allegations were that Zile Ram had taken Rs.4.95 lakh from Singh for the recruitment of a candidate, a resident of village Chhot in Kaithal district, in an official post.
"Jain had also taken Rs.4.5 lakh from Singh for the recruitment of a candidate, resident of village Madlauda district in Panipat, for a government job. Through his P.A., Jain had also taken Rs.3 lakh from Singh for the recruitment of his son as a conductor in Haryana roadways," said the official.
When the government jobs in respect of the said candidates could not be materialised, Singh requested both legislators for the return of the money, but they refused.
Singh made all efforts to get the money returned but the lawmakers started harassing and threatening him.
On June 7, 2011 Singh was found in serious condition near a christian cemetery in Karnal with several wounds on his body. He was admitted in a government hospital where he died the same day.
