Mangalore, Jan 3: To mark the fifth anniversary of the premier portal linking west-coast of India and world, Daijiworld.com, it has announced its plan to honour about 40 correspondents who will be available in Mangalore during the event for their outstanding contribution and dedication towards its progress and achievements.
Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld, while speaking to the presspersons in the Mangalore Press Club on Monday evening informed that "We have about 200 dedicated and honorary correspondents worldwide, and because of their efforts, the site has reached its pinnacle. It is our duty to recognize and acknowledge their good work. Though all of them are not available on the date, we are honouring about 40 correspondents from the Gulf, Europe and India."
"The Mangalore press, be it print or electronic, has been with us right from the day of the inception of our Mangalore office. We are indebted to them for their support and encouragement. Also this is an opportunity for us to show our gratitude to our advertisers and sponsors. We consider reaching the fifth year of milestone as an ideal opportunity to do the honour, " Walter Nandalike added.
Community leader and former president of Mangalore Konkans Dubai Valerian Peris, Assumpta Pereira from London and Richie Lasrado, resident editor, were present along with Walter Nandalike during the press meet.
The formal celebrations will be held in Mangalore, as the web portal came into existence on January 14, 2001 in Dubai. It is for the first time in Mangalore that a function is being held as part of its anniversary.
The function celebrating the fifth anniversary of Daijiworld.com will be held in the new Milagres Conference Hall next to Hotel Moti Mahal on Saturday, January 7, 2006. The function will begin at 6 pm sharp and continue up to 9 pm. A short multilingual musical presentation and dinner will also be part of the event.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore, city mayor Ashraf, Ryan International Schools - Mumbai director Grace Pinto, Magnum Intergrafiks chairman Sudhir Ghate, Printania Offset Mumbai managing director Albert W D'Souza, Abu Dhabi's NRI entrepreneur Leo Rodrigues, Property Real Estate proprietor Rohan Monteiro, DK District Working Journalists' Union (R) - Mangalore president Ravindra Shetty, and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario, among others.
One of Daijiworld.com's Konkani columns 'Bindaas' is being written by well-known Konkani writer, Stan Ageira, Mulki. A compilation of his articles is now published in print format. Daijiworld.com being the publisher of the book, the book will be released during the event.
Also being released is a music album called 'Dini Dini', with lyrics by noted poet Melvyn Rodrigues and music directed by Alwyn Fernandes, who has already directed the music of Kannada movie, 'Praana' and assisted other music directors. Well-known Bollywood playback singers like Vasundhara Das, Sunidhi Chauhan and Sunita Rao.
About 300 guests from Mangalore's media community, advertisers, sponsors, reporters and invited guests are expected to attend the programme.
