Mangalore, May 20: Newly inducted state health and family welfare minister, U T Khadar, said that his priority will be to work for the progress of the district and to provide permanent solution to the problem of sea erosion at Ullal.
He was speaking to journalists after visiting several places of worship in around the city after his arrival here on Sunday May 19.
The minister, after his arrival at the airport, was taken in a rally to circuit house, where he interacted with union minister Dr Veerappa Moily and later visited Ullal Dargah, Bhagavati Cheerumbha Temple, Ullal, Kolya Kulala Temple, Kapikad Uma Maheshwari Temple, Somnatheshwara Temple, and St Sebastian Church, Thokkottu, and sought divine blessings. He also visited Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple and Zeenath Baksh in the city.
"Congress high command gave tickets to four candidates from the minority communities, and all four have won. This proves that not only the minorites but even those from the majority community have played an important role in our victory. I am grateful and indebted to every party worker, leader and voter for supporting me," he said.
When questioned about how he will handle health ministry, an altogether new field for him, Khadar said he has developed the habit of handling every work and opportunity entrusted to him with courage and confidence.
“I have been provided with an opportunity by the central and state leaders to serve the state. I will discharge my responsibilities towards my constituency, party, and the government without allowing the faith and confidence they have reposed on me to erode. Credit for my success goes to the senior leaders and party workers,” he added.
Khadar said the state government will give a free hand to police officials to take stringent steps against anti-social elements, without any interference by politicians. He explained that he will request top leadership of the party to accommodate Beltangady MLA, Vasant Bangera, by giving him a suitable post.
