Mangalore: MCC starts cleaning of drains ahead of monsoons

Mangalore, May 19: Mangalore City Corporation has nearly 180 km of major drains under its limits. The process of cleaning these drains with a view to ensuring the smooth flow of rain water is being carried out in various parts of the city.
The process of cleaning out drains over 59 km is in progress at a cost of Rs 70.7 lac. DC N Prakash visited the Yekkur and Jappinamogaru drain areas where cleaning work is in progress, carried out inspection, and instructed the officials in this regard.
He urged the officials to clear out waste that has been taken out from the drains immediately.
Speaking to the media, MCC commissioner Harish Kumar said that there are nearly 37 mainstream drains which are 180 km long and more than 1.5 m in height.
“For cleaning these drains, nearly 17 machines are running for the time being and manpower will be used for a few places where the machines cannot reach,” he added.
MCC officials K M Jayaprakash, Rajshekar, Ningegowda, and Ganpathya were present.
