Mangalore, May 18: “People have high expectations from the new government and it is our duty to fulfil them,” said former union minister and Congress leader Janardhan Poojary.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday May 18, he said, “All the MLAs and the high command decided to make Siddaramaiah the new CM, and we welcome this decision unequivocally. Siddaramaiah has already fulfilled two important promises in the Congress manifesto - rice at Re 1 per kg for the poor and Rs 4 as subsidy for milk - both these steps have been widely appreciated and welcomed."
He further added, “Twenty-eight members have been selected for the cabinet and state ministry. There are no cases against any of these members. The Congress high command has sent a clear message to all the new ministers, including the CM, that if they make any mistake, especially corruption, in the coming days, they will be dealt with a stern hand. This is a warning to them by the high command and all need to follow it on priority,” he added.
"If any minister ignores this warning by the high command and goes against the objectives of the party, people will teach him a proper lesson," he said.
"From DK district, Ramanath Rai, U T Khader, Vinay Kumar Sorake and Abhaychandra Jain have been chosen as ministers. We have made promises to the people by means of our manifesto before elections and it is our utmost duty to fulfill them in the coming days. We have promised that there will be no tax increments; hence there is need for resource mobilization. The chosen ministers and MLAs of the district have to see to it that more and more funds are put towards development of the city and hence help in making Mangalore a role model city. Central leaders like Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes are also equally responsible in looking after these aspects," Poojary said.
"It is the duty and reponsibility of the ministers and the MLAs to provide the best and completely corruption-free administration to the public in the coming days. People’s expectation from the government is quite high and we have to fulfill them and bring a major change as promised, and if we fail, people will never forgive us," he added.
“If we don’t work for the people, then the same lesson (as taught to BJP) will be taught to us also, because Mangaloreans are well educated. Don’t take the people lightly,” he warned.
Harikrishna Bantwal, Arun Coelho and Suresh Ballal were present.
