Mangalore, Apr 16: Evita Coelho, a Mangalorean, has done her a city proud by bagging the first rank and gold medal in MTech (software engineering) in Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum.
A parishioner of Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail, Evita is an assistant professor at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, teaching final year B E computer science students.
She is the daughter of Edward J Coelho and Juliana Concessao, residents of Bejai. She has a twin sister Jovita Coelho, who is married and stays in Mumbai. She also has another sister Janice Coelho.
She was a student of East Point College Bangalore, and did her BE (computer science) at St Joseph's Engineering College, Vamanjoor.
Speaking to daijiworld, Evita said that she prepared herself on a daily basis for three hours every morning. "As it was a PG course, it was mostly self-study. I would get up early morning every day and prepare my own notes," she said.
She further said that her uncle Melwin D'Souza was her inspiration, who told her, "When you have to do something, do it to the best of your ability or else just leave it because someone else will do it."
"The credit goes to my father who has been very motivating and my mother, sisters and grandfather who have been my moral support," she said.
She plans to pursue her PhD soon. Her mantra for success is good discipline and a strict schedule. "Plan your work and work your plan. Work hard, but enjoy life in a balance way."
