Kundapur, Apr 5: A group of loyal BJP workers, which meet in a hotel at Byndoor on Thursday April 4 evening, strongly objected to the party’s decision to field B M Sukumar Shetty, who has recently defected from the Congress, in place of sitting MLA K Lakshminarayana.
Addressing the gathering, BJP leader, P Sukhananda Shetty, said that there are many aspirants for the ticket from this constituency. He accused the party leadership of consulting party workers when choosing candidates from other constituency, and totally sidelining them in Byndoor.
He said that the party has not taken the party workers into confidence while taking the above decision, and expressed regret at the party’s action in showing favour towards a person who recently migrated from another party.
“There has been communication gap between party leaders and workers. During his tenure, K Lakshminarayana has worked very well,” he added. In his address, Lakshminarayana said that he had worked very hard last time for the party’s success, and that he had pooled resources for the party. He said he was an aspirant for the ticket, and had been assured of the same earlier.
The meeting later decided to put pressure on the party to allot ticket from this constituency either to K Lakshminarayana or P Sukhananda Shetty, both of whom have been working for the party’s organization since the last two decades. The workers said they would work honestly for the success of the party candidate only if the candidate is the original worker of the party.
BJP leaders like Navinchandra Uppunda, and a number of party workers from the constituency attended the meeting.
