Sullia, Apr 3: In an incident that occurred at Bollur in Aletty village in the taluk on Tuesday April 2, a youth was stabbed to death by his paternal uncle. Property dispute is said to be the reason for the murder. The daughter of the uncle concerned also suffered some injuries.
Sadashiva Naik (26) from Bellampare in Bollur village lost his life in the incident. His uncle, Narayana Naik, who works as a peon in Rotary School, Sullia, is the accused. Both had longstanding tussle relating to the property rights, and the situation turned worse after Narayana Naik lost his cool and killed his nephew. Sadashiva, who was critically injured in the incident, was brought to a hospital in the town in an auto rickshaw, but he was declared brought dead. Narayana was handed over to the police.
During the fight, Ramya, daughter of Narayana Naik, too was injured. She was treated at government hospital here.
It is learnt that Narayana Naik, who is educated, got some land which the family owned since long, transferred in his name, taking advantage of the fact that his elder brother, Appaiah Naik, was uneducated and was not good at worldly affairs. The two families fought over ownership rights, although both houses are located in the same piece of land. Sadashiva Naik had married last year. Satish, brother of Sadashiva, in his complaint, said that his uncle stabbed his brother, when he questioned the former about his action in cutting down a tree standing in their side of the land. In her statement, Ramya claimed that she and her father were walking by the road towards her college, when a gang of seven attacked them all of a sudden.
The police have registered a case, and started investigation.
