Mangalore, Jan 13: “We should follow principles of Swami Vivekananda, the great humanist the world ever saw. Swami Vivekananda was the one who spread Indian culture and showed greatness of our country to the entire world”, said Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes.
He addressed the gathering during the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda by district congress at Milagress hall on Saturday January 12.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Swami Vivekananda should be role model to the youth. If the youth stick on to his principles and then surely the culture of our country will become rich, he said.
“He lived for only 39 years and within short span of time he made the entire world remember his works. There are many people who have lived for about 100 years, but they are not remembered because they were not great as Swami Vivekananda. Let us walk in the path which he told us and thus contribute to our country’s development”, he added.
Prior to the programme, a rally was taken from Shanthi Nilaya Church ground in Balmatta to Milagres hall. The rally was inaugurated by former minister Janardhan Poojary.
Former Vidhana parishad member, professor Ejazuddin and professor Nithyananda Shetty of Tumkur university spoke on the life of Vivekananda.
Former MP Vinaykumar Sorake, B Ramanath Rai, J R Lobo, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, MLA U T Khader, Mohammed Masood, Ibrahim Kodijal among others were present.
