Mangalore, Jan 10: The Hamaali workers under the banner of CITU on Thursday January 10 organized a rally from Bunder till the deputy commissioner’s office along with their handcart protesting against the bad roads and drainage problem in the area.
"Bunder being a commercial center, roads from old municipal office are completely damaged. It is very difficult for workers to pass through the road next to police station, roads near Krishna police station and several others as the workers use handcart in transporting freight," the protestors said.
"Sometimes workers are also injured due to bad roads. In addition, the drainage connection in the area is also weak which leads to breakage very often," they added.
Despite several appeals submitted to the city corporation, no action has been taken so far, alleged one of the workers. They demanded immediate construction of road and speedy solutions to other problems.
Willy Wilson, president of Bunder Shramikara Sangha, B K Imthiyaz, chief secretary, Lancy Noronha, treasurer among others were present.
