Kundapur, Jan 6: The journey between Bangalore-Karwar takes about 18 to 20 hours; in case a broad gauge is placed between Shravana Belagola- Sakleshpura route, the move saves 2 to 3 hours. Former MLA and Basroor Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple Trustee B Appanna Hegde said that the concerned people need to play certain pressure tactics in the coming Railway budget.
He spoke after inaugurating the street light facility on Moodlakatte Railway Station Road. MIT Moodlukatte and electricity contractor K R Naik have donated for the purpose. The program was organized under the joint aegis of Grama Panchayath Koni, Railway Passengers’ welfare forum.
He added that it is former Union Minister George Fernandes who deserves appreciation for initiating the Konkan railway. He also stated that travel through Kundapur-Mumbai railway line should be simplified. Passengers from this region should avail the best out of the service, he said.
Koni Gram Panchayath president Rukku Poojari presided over the program. Railway Passengers’ Welfare Forum president Kenchanur Somashekar Shetty said that it was difficult in the railway station road without street lights during night times. Donors have come forward now and donated for the facility, and various such programs will be initiated on different phases to ease passengers, he said.
MSCOM Senior engineer Ashok, ZP member Prakash Mendon, TP member Bhaskar Billawa, Rotary president Kodladi Subhashchandra Shetty, Moodlakatte MIT principal Shubha P Bhat, contractor K R Naik among others were present.
On the occasion Shobha P Bhat and K R Naik were felicitated. Forum’s secretary Sacchidananda delivered vote of thanks. Koni Grama Panchayath PDO Vasanthi welcomed and compeered. Ex MLA Halady Shreenivas Shetty had allotted Rs 1 lac from his fund for laying the street light line.
