Mangalore, Nov 25: "It is inevitable that the public should dispense with the usage of plastic oriented products to save the environment from further pollution which is health hazardous," opined former vice-chancellor of Manipal University Dr B M Hegde.
He was speaking after inaugurating the plastic free campaign organized by city based Eco Be Green organization jointly with Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti on Saturday November 24 at Hotel Ocean Pearl here
He also advocated and urged the teachers that they should educate and create awareness among the students about the ill effects of plastic products causing environment pollution at the primary level, keeping in view of the future problems. Later, he launched environment friendly reusable cotton bags and distributed to the representatives of different educational institutions and organizations to acquaint the citizens with the eco-friendly cotton bags.
Regional transport officer Mallikarjun speaking as a chief guest appealed to the students should take an oath against the use of plastic products and transmit messages to their friends about environment pollution, owing to the use of plastic products and urged them to keep the coastal region clean and pollution free.
Professor, department of computer science and engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology Rtn Er Shrikanth Prabhu was the guest of honour on this occasion. He revealed the statistics of percentage of environment pollution due to the usage of plastic products and expressed his opinion that hospitals are outside the purview of this issue and concern.
Co-founder of Eco Be Green Ashwath Hegde welcomed and CEO Rtn Er Ananth Prabhu proposed a vote of thanks. Vishwas compered the programme.
