Dubai, Sep 21: Three budding Engineers Krati Bhargava, Prajwal Praveen, Shaikh Abubakkar from MIT (Dubai campus), as part of their final year project, have created "Automated Hydro-Jack" system that operates with a button fitted on the dashboard. The electronic control unit activates the hydraulic jack automatically.
The trio wanted to build something which would help the motorist as well as the technicians and they zeroed in on the project "Automated Hydro-Jack".
According to Prajwal, "In today’s world, with the increasing level of technology, the effort being put into to produce any kind of work has been continuously decreasing. The efforts required in achieving the desired output can be effectively and economically be decreased by the implementation of better designs. Our survey with regard to several automobile garages, revealed the facts that mostly some difficult methods were adopted in lifting the vehicles for reconditioning as well as when the tire is punctured."
"We concentrated mainly on this difficulty, and hence a suitable electronic control unit has been designed, such that the vehicles can be lifted from the ground without application of any impact force. By operating the button in the dashboard, the electronic control unit activates the hydraulic jack automatically," say Krati and Abubakker who are equally excited as Prajwal on the final outcome.
It works on the principle of Pascal’s law, which states that, "Pressure exerted anywhere in a confined incompressible fluid is transmitted equally in all directions throughout the fluid such that the pressure ratio remains the same".
In this project, a hydraulic pump has been integrated with the piston and cylinder arrangement and the electricity needed for the operation is taken from the battery of the vehicle and thereby increasing the mechanical advantage.
The team was assisted by Dr S V Kota Reddy who is the chairperson of the engineering department at MIT Dubai campus. "It gives me immense pleasure to talk about our final year students' innovative project on 'Hydraulic Jack for a Car'. It was an excellent idea to place a hydraulic jack to wheels to lift the car without any manual effort when the tyre gets punctured. The students have designed, fabricated and tested the system successfully. This kind of system is highly useful in the automobile industry. We are trying file for an international patent on this innovative idea," he said.
Words from the director of Manipal University Dubai, Dr Ramjee - "I am delighted at this ingenious invention which I am sure will become a common feature in all our vehicles to be driven in future. This is indeed a true testament to these young engineer’s creativity and imagination."
