Tel Aviv, Apr 25: In a grim development from the conflict-ridden Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Thursday confirmed the death of one soldier and injuries to three others in a sniper and anti-tank missile attack in the northern buffer zone near Beit Hanoun.

According to a statement released by the IDF, the troops—comprising mainly reserve armoured fighters—were travelling aboard a tank as part of an operational mission in the administrative axis area when they exited the vehicle. It was during this exposure that the unit came under sudden fire.

An anti-tank missile was launched by terrorists, narrowly missing its target. However, simultaneous sniper fire fatally struck one of the soldiers, while three others sustained injuries—two of them seriously, and the third moderately.

The incident highlights the mounting dangers Israeli troops continue to face in Gaza’s volatile buffer zones, where hostilities persist despite ongoing calls for de-escalation.

Military authorities have expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the wounded soldiers are receiving the best medical care. Further investigations into the incident are underway as the IDF continues its operations in the region.
