Bantwal, Aug 9: Even as classes were under way in Acharypalke School in Panjikallu village near here, chaos prevailed in the gram sabha meeting convened in the school premises on Wednesday August 8.
The students and teachers were mute spectators to the uproar at the village council meeting that was convened at the school without written permission during the class hours.
The teachers were asked to vacate the class that was under way in the school hall in order convene the meeting.
As the meeting progressed, chaos prevailed with verbal abuses, disturbing the classes in the adjacent rooms. A few youth who attended the meeting heavily drunk set a bad example with indiscipline by chewing gutka and spitting all over.
It is customary for gram sabha meetings to be held in their respective schools across the taluk. But, the village council takes care not to disturb the ongoing classes. The school teachers expressed their helplessness in this regard.
Block education officer K Sudhakar, when contacted for clarification, said that he is aware of the difficulties caused to the students and teachers by the council meeting whenever classes are under way at the school. Meanwhile, he also said that he would discuss the issue with the taluk panchayat CEO in this regard to resolve the issue.
The taluk panchayat former president Sudarshan Jain said that the council meeting would be convened at the new building owned by Panjikallu gram panchayat, since convening meeting during class hours causes inconvenience to students and teachers alike.
