Abu Dhabi - Delhi AI Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Pakistan

New Delhi, Jul 9 (Agency): An Air India flight from Abu Dhabi to New Delhi has had to make an emergency landing an airport in Pakistan's Nawabshah, in Sindh province early this morning. The pilot, Captain Sunil Vashist, sought permission to land in Pakistan after all three hydraulic systems of the Airbus A 319 failed in a rare occurrence.

The plane landed at Nawabshah airport in southern Sindh province at 3:37 am.

It is estimated that the plane is carrying about 122 people. All of them are safe and have reportedly been provided a meal at the Pakistan airport. Reports say the repair work is going on.

In New Delhi, an Air India spokesperson said: "The aircraft was flying over Pakistan air space when the pilot saw a warning light in the cockpit and sought permission to land at the nearest airport which was Nawabshah."

The captain preferred to have the passengers remain on board the aircraft though Pakistani authorities had offered to allow them to disembark, Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Pervez George said said.

Sources say that a technical team of eight engineers and an aircraft will shortly leave from Delhi to bring back the passengers.

Incidents like these happen with every airline in the world, not just Air India, people you need to stop being rhetoric about how AI has never taken care of its plane. The moment some AI/Jet aircraft has a problem, the media begin to blow it out of proportion. Thank God no lives were lost. It is nice to Pakistanis set aside their animosity towards us and act humane. It is these kind of acts that bring even the biggest of enemies together.

Hydraulic problem caused emergency landing even before also. Why Air India authority not monitoring these regularly? Still waiting for the bad incidents to happen??

I worked as a Chief Engineer in Merchant Navy up to 2008. My ship visited Pakistan and Port Kasim many a times.
Pakistanis are one of the most wonderful people on earth.
I was told by the local staff at Karachi " Saab jub thak aap hamere gaon me hai, aap ko khana peena sub hum log khilayenge".
I also stayed at AVARI Hotel, Karachi for 7 days, awaiting my flight back to Bombay.I was pampered by the Pakistani people to the hilt during that time.
Both Indian and Pakistani governments may have their differences, but we are brothers as common people.
There are Pathans, Pasthun, Indian origin muslims, catholics etc. in Pakistan.
The Pathans are one of the most handsome and docile people on earth. The legend says that they are the descendents of the Greek Emperor Alexander the Great. They have light colored eyes, stand more than 6 feet tall, very fair and are ferocious - when needed only. They are mostly mild mannered.
I still have my collection of Onyx set which was gifted to me by a Pakistani army Brigadier.
Long live friendship between India and Pakistan - between us common people (leave the politics aside).
If a Pakistan plane would have landed in India, our politicians would have cried blue murder and all the passengers and crew would have been arrested as terrorists.
See how the Pakistani Government treated our citizens!

War between India and Pakistan is only at the government level (to fool us common people of India and Pakistan)... By keeping this mis understanding on and on...our politicians gain whatever they want. Common people of India and Pakistan are same.

Altough I'm born Indian, I've some of the best friends from Pakistan living in Canada.

From my expereince becuase our Indian politics and media shows Pakistan as an enemy but please take that block and consider them they are your friends.

It took really lot of efforts to take that block. Today I'm free from this stigma.

A great gesture from the Pak officials allowing all the passengers just to disembark .Sure there was a confusion among the passengers itself when it landed suddenly in a unknown Pak Airport? The previous stories tells otherwise?.Anyhow Say a happy moment for everybody?.

All God's wish!!! All the passengers are safe luckily. Generally all the flights have routine check for MAINTENANCE before flying from the departure airport. Was this done by Air India Technical Team???? If the answer is "NO", it wont be surprise becasuse Air India is the finest example of any kind of mishapes if we consider the incidents happening over the past few years????? If it was a private international airlines there would have been strict rules and procedures in terms of safety, maintenance, descipline of the cabin staff and finally responsibility of the Management. But this is a Government Airlines!!!! We cant question anybody no matter how big the disaster takes place????
In this Airlines only ticket fare is competitive compared to other quatlity airlines But about service???? Only regular passengers know better..... All the best to future passengers of AIR INDIA.

I dont think we need Air India Express anymore. I know it is convenient for Gulf passengers for the direct flight but sacrificing a stop over is better than life.
