Udupi, Jun 17: Udupi District Association for Special Educators and supportive staff, Udupi and Lions Club International DIST 324D4, in association with Sports and Cultural Academy for Mentally Challenged, Karnataka, organized ‘Olympics for Special Children’ on Saturday June 16 at Ammani Ramanna Shetty Auditorium, Udupi.
The programme was inaugurated by Lakshmivarateerta Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt. The event was presided over by Jayakar Shetty, general manager, Lions Club, Swetha Jaykar Shetty, Pramod Madhwaraj, and the chief guest was deputy superintendent Prabhudev Mane. Chandrashekar Rao welcomed all.
Twelve special school students from five districts participated in various programmes. They districts are Davangere, Chitradurga, Shimoga, North Canara, and Udupi. They had sports, cultural programmes, and quiz programmes.
“No need for sympathy, give us an opportunity”, the programme urged the common people that this is the essential idea; this was the perfect opportunity for the special kids. Lots of children participated in it.
The Swamiji said that this is an excellent idea to give opportunity rather than sympathy, and congratulated Lions Club on the initiative. ‘Anna Dana’ at Krishna Mutt has also been started with a holy idea for 10,000 students.
“Stay human and respect human dignity,” said deputy superintendent Prabhudev Mane.
