Kundapur, Jan 9: A chain collision occurred near the petrol pump on National Highway 66 in Kota on Thursday, January 9, leaving several people injured. The accident involved a tipper truck, a tanker, and a KSRTC bus.

The incident reportedly occurred when a tipper truck, heading from Kota to Udupi, broke down and was left stationary in the middle of the road, obstructing other vehicles. The driver of the tipper failed to inform either the Kota police or the toll staff about the breakdown. No warning signs were placed to alert oncoming vehicles.

Subsequently, a tanker following the tipper collided with it, and a KSRTC bus travelling from Gokarna to Subrahmanya rammed into the tanker from behind.

The bus driver and several passengers sustained injuries in the crash. Local residents quickly rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Witnesses have alleged that the negligence of the tipper driver was the cause of the accident. Despite the gravity of the situation and several injuries, the owner of the tipper reportedly engaged in a heated argument with the gathered public.

Kota police station sub-inspector Sudha Prabhu, assistant sub-inspector Gopal Poojary, and other officers arrived at the scene promptly. They conducted an inspection, cleared the wreckage, and restored smooth traffic flow.
