Mangalore, Jun 14: Continuing their crack down on unauthorized businesses across the city, the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials in an early operation on Thursday June 14 raided and sealed an illegal slaughter house in Bunder here.
The officials led by health inspector Bharat Kumar raided the slaughter house run by Naeem, son of Noor Mohammed, whose abattoir was raided and sealed by the MCC officials on June 3.
At around 4.30 am, the MCC officials went to Noor's slaughter house (which had allegedly begun functioning after paying a fine of Rs 2,000), but found it closed. They then proceeded to Naeem's abattoir at Ansar Road in Bunder, and found sheep being slaughtered there.
The MCC officials found six sheep already slaughtered, and skins of three sheep. Also, 81 sheep, all alive and well, were stocked at the slaughter house. The slaughter house was sealed for running illegally.
The officials seized the meat and later buried it at the dumping yard in Pachanady. The 81 sheep they seized will be put on auction the same day, as per the orders of MCC commissioner.
It is said that there was pressure on the officials from higher authorities to release the seized sheep to the abattoir, as in the previous case of Noor Mohammed where he got back all the sheep for a paltry 'fine' of Rs 2000. However, this time, the officials refused to comply and will go ahead with the auction.
The seized livestock is said to be worth Rs 5 lac.
MCC officials Yashwant, Santosh, Manjunath Shetty, Raghunath and Madhu S were part of the raid operation.
