Mangaluru, Apr 3: The campus of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru buzzed with excitement on Tuesday, April 1 as Scouts and Guides gathered for an action-packed one-day camp. It commenced at 8:30 am with a solemn flag-hoisting ceremony, where principal Sr Melissa A C officially declared the camp open, inspiring participants to engage wholeheartedly in the day’s adventures.

The first session featured senior Scouts and Guides demonstrating fundamental survival skills, including knot-tying and essential bandaging techniques. The morning’s activities continued with traditional games such as Kuntebille (hopscotch), sack races, seven tiles, and knucklebones, a timeless game played worldwide using five flat stones or pebbles. These friendly competitions fostered teamwork and sportsmanship, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the camp.

Following a refreshing lunch break, students gathered for an all-faith prayer, reinforcing values of unity and harmony. The afternoon was filled with dynamic activities, including code-breaking memory games, campfire rehearsals, and a unique "cooking without fire" challenge that put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test.

As the sun set, casting a warm glow over the grounds, the much-anticipated campfire session began, expertly hosted by Guide Samyuktha and her team. Patrols captivated the audience with energetic skits and dances, creatively weaving in the principles of the Scout and Guide Law while showcasing their talent and camaraderie.

The highlight of the evening was the award ceremony. As Scout Master Jyotsna R N announced the winners, administrator Sr Carissima presented prizes for various individual competitions, while Sr Asha Prima and Sr Teena honored the winners of the group events. The most awaited moment arrived when principal Sr Melissa bestowed the prestigious Best Patrol (Scout) and Best Patrol (Guide) awards, alongside individual accolades for the Best Scout to Arnav V Shetty and Best Guide to Lenora Alma Goveas, both from grade X. Their joy and surprise were palpable as they received their well deserved recognition.

In her closing address, principal Sr Melissa commended all the winners and praised the dedication and enthusiasm of both participants and mentors. Guide Captain Aparna expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management, staff, parents, and students who played a role in making the camp a resounding success.

The day wrapped up on a joyous note as campers danced with unbridled enthusiasm around the campfire culminating in a heartfelt campfire song and a delightful ice cream treat, marking the perfect ending to a day brimming with adventure, learning and fellowship.

The one-day Scouts and Guides Camp 2025 was truly an unforgettable experience, instilling invaluable life skills, fostering teamwork and reinforcing the core spirit of scouting and guiding. Campers departed with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for the values that define their journey as Scouts and Guides.
