Mangalore, Jun 13: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Umanath A Kotian announced the winners of ‘Gaurava Award 2011’ and ‘Book Award 2011’ at a press conference held at Chavadi of Academy hall on Tuesday June 12.
Bola Chittharanjandas Shetty, Seetharam Shetty, and T A Shreenivas will be conferred with the Gaurava Award for their contributions to the field of literature, theatre, and cinema, respectively. The award includes Rs 10,000 in cash, a memento, and shawl.
“Putthige Padmanabha Rai, Dr Ashok Alva, and Rathnakar Rao Kavoor will be conferred with the book awards for their contribution to the fields of novel, story, and drama, respectively. The award ceremony will be held at Town Hall on Saturday June 16 at 3 pm,” said Kotian.
Deputy speaker Yogish Bhat will preside. Folk researcher Bannanje Babu Amin will inaugurate the programme. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will hand over the Gaurava Award and MLA Krishna J Palemar will give away the Book Awards.
On the occasion, a book titled ‘Kavigalu Kanda Tulunadu’ compiled by Vasanth Kumar Perla will be released by litterateur Hampa Nagarajaiah.
Later, Nesara artistes, Gutthigaru will stage a play ‘Thitthiri-Majal’. Artistes of Lalithe Koota will stage a Tulu historical play ‘Tulunada Beere – Devu Poonje’. Kotian said that more Tuluvas should take part in the programme.
Registrar Chandrahas Rai B, members Jagannath Shetty Bala, and Kadri Navneeth Shetty were present at the press conference.
