Puttur, June 7: A man from Nujibalthila gram near Kadaba allegedly escaped after he tried to sell deer antlers.
The accused are identified as Guruvappa and his brother from Kallugudde who managed to escape the police.
Forest department officials suspected head of Dalith community from Nujibalthila for having deer antlers. It was said that he carrying out illegal activities in nearby places and was searching for customers.
Forest department squads were sure of this information and hence decided to set a trap to catch them. They approached them as customers for buying the antlers. The accused and his brother made a deal to sell two deer antlers for Rs 25000 in their house at Nujibalthila. Meanwhile, the accused grew suspicious of the customers to be police officials and left the place saying they would bring the deer skins which left back at home and thus successfully managed to escape.
The deer antlers were later handed over to forest department. A case has been registered.
Investigation is been carried out under the leadership of forest department SI Subanna Nayak.
