Udupi, May 12: Tulu movie ‘Bhagya’, based on the life of a fisherwoman in the coastal district, that was directed by journalist Prakash Suvarna Katpady, was adjudged the top regional movie in the 13th Madurai Film Festival, Tamil Nadu, recently.
This movie was the fifth among 22 movies shortlisted from over 500 movies of different languages of South India screened to qualify for the ‘Sharatchandra Memorial Award’ at Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
The Tulu regional movie was recognized from among movies in English, Nepali, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu languages at the Film Festival.
Francis D’Sa Shankarapura is the producer of ‘Bhagya’ and veteran dramatist Raju B Tonse is the script writer. Sandeep Udupi is the cameraman, youth artiste Ramesh Kidiyoor is the choreographer, and Rohit Malpe is the music director of the movie.
Professor Sujata Shetty Perinje enacted the role of Bhagya, the fisherwoman, along with other actors Suresh Yermal, Sanjeev Salian, Jalaja Naik, and Leeladar Shetty.
Bhagya also bagged the top regional movie award in Ambit Film Festival. It will be screened at Sheshashayana auditorium at 12.30pm on Saturday May 26, stated the press release.
