Mangalore, Mar 27: A cruise vessel 'M V Amsterdam' with 918 passengers and 668 crew on board called at NMPT on Monday March 26. This is the 16th cruise vessel calling at the Port during the current financial year 2011-12.
The vessel with a length of 238 metres came to NMPT as her first port of call from Colombo and sailed to Goa in the evening. Majority of the passengers are from USA.
Around 600 passengers have opted for ground tour arranged by the local tour operators. The passengers have visited places like cashew processing unit at Bykampady, 1000 pillar Jain temple Moodabidri, lunch at Soans Farm, monolithic statue of gomateshwara at Karkala, Gokarnanatha temple, Kadri temple, St Aloysius chapel, Sultan battery, Ullal darga, Thannirbhavi, etc. 49 passengers have opted for air travel for site seeing at Agra and will join back the vessel at Mumbai.
Chairman, Dr P Tamilvanan while expressing happiness over the good feedback from the captains and tour operators of the various cruise vessels called at the Port during the current cruise season, has appreciated all those connected with the smooth handling of the cruise vessels at New Mangalore Port.
