Addressing a press meet here on Sunday March 25, he said that it is estimated that water in the Thumbay dam is sufficient only for nine more days.
He said that drinking water crisis will be severe this time. "Last year there was water up to 12 ft and 3 in, but this time it is only 8 ft and 10 in. In the previous year water level had reduced by 2 inches. But this year due to several reasons water level is reducing by 4 inches. Inflow of water is also constrained by 50% , he said.
He said that a meeting with officials and discussions on the same have been conducted. Private use of water in AMR and MRPL dams will be stopped and water will be provided for the city. Bhat also said that suggestions have been made to immediately stop water supply to factories.
"Factories have been asked to cooperate, and people should also cooperate by not wasting water. Importance should be given to drinking water. To supplement water needs, 200 bore wells in the city will be used to supply water. Tank water facility will be provided to areas that face severe shortage," he said.
Yogish Bhat asked the people to offer prayers so that it would rain soon.

Usually at this time the water level in the dam would be 12 ft, but this time due to scorching summer and shortage of summer rains, the level has decreased drastically. If it does not rain in Subramanya and Ghat areas severe drought will be faced in the city.
