Mangalore, Mar 24: JD(S) party leaders and workers on Saturday March 24 came down heavily on their own leader, former Udupi district JD(S) president Deviprasad Shetty, after the latter's statement that the minority community betrayed party candidate Boje Gowda by not voting for him in the recent held Udupi-Chikamagalur Lok Sabha by-election.
At a press meet held on Saturday, D M Aslam, president, district minority cell of JD(S) said that the people's verdict in the by-election was accepted and honoured by the party. He also said it was a good move by the people to reject BJP.
"However, it was disheartening to note that Udupi district JD(S) president Deviprasad Shetty commented on minority community not voting for JD(S). The reason for the party's setback was lack of leaders, and poor party strength in Udupi district. Hence, collective efforts will have to be made to strengthen the party," he said and added that Deviprasad Shetty should gracefully accept failure.
It may be mentioned here that Deviprasad Shetty resigned from his president's post soon after the bypoll results were officially announced on March 21.
Sushil Noronha, secretary, Aziz Kudroli, corporator, Iqbal Mulki, state secretary, Yuva Janathadala among others were present.
