Mangalore, Mar 19: The editorial board of the 'Ferarchen Preran' , St Francis Xavier Church, Ferar, here, organized a workshop for writers in the Church hall from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm on Sunday March 18. This programme is one among the 100 programs to be organized this year by the St Francis Xavier Church , Ferar, in connection with the centenary celebrations.
The resource persons were Dolphy Cascia and J F D’Souza, Attavar, eminent and well-known writers in Konkani and other languages. The workshop was inaugurated by chief guest Melwin Pinto, a young Konkani poet and writer and also a parishioner of the Church. He addressed the gathering saying, "If Konkani is declining today, we need to do something about it. It is our responsibility to see that the generations to come uphold the richness of the language." In order to encourage the young writers he promised he will remain a sponsor to publish a book of short stories written by the young writers.
Dr Pius Fedelis Pinto, well known writer on coastal Konkani history and parish priest presided over the function. The session was divided into two. First half was taken up by Dolphy Cascia, who gave an outline as to how to write short stories. In the second session J F D'Souza, Attavar, taught the gathering how to a write letter to the editor.
Fr Benjamin D'Souza, former parish priest was the guest of honour. Willam D’Souza, vice president of the parish council and Lancy Cutinho, parish council secretary were also present.
Thereafter, a panel discussion was held on the topics covered and was moderated by Dr Pius Fedelis Pinto. Walter Albuquerque, a trainee, read a poetry on the day’s workshop.
Roshan Sequeira, editor of 'Ferarchen Preran', welcomed the gathering and Leo Pinto, member of editorial committee, proposed the vote of thanks. Tara Laveena Fernandes compered the programme.
