Udupi, Jan 26: The CPI (M) district committee staged a protest in front of Sri Krishna Mutt opposing the discrimination in the dining and caste system, as part of the statewide protest call by the state CPI (M) on Thursday January 26.
Addressing the gathering of protestors at martyrs’ memorial on Ajjarkad Grounds at 11 am on Thursday, CPI (M) state secretary G V Sriram Reddy said that caste system prevails in different forms in every celebration at various temples across the state.
"CPI (M) believes in equality among people in the society. It is against caste system in every form. The systematically planned recent attacks on the minority are an attempt by vested interests to cover up their wrong deeds. The people do not voice their grievances against vested interests. Driven by blind beliefs people are becoming victims of caste discrimination, sacrifice for dignity, and social evil of rolling over leftovers of the upper caste," Reddy said.
He further added, "A few people are projecting the minority community as 'thieves' in their speeches. BJP leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat deserves imprisonment for trying to instigate communal disturbance through his speech at the recently held Hindu Samajotsava at Uppinangady. CPI (M) will protest social injustice, whereever it may be."
CPI (M) chief secretary C N Nagaraj urged the state administration to curb all forms of evil practices in the state. "The state administration has been trying to cause divisions among the students on the basis of religion by introducing studies on Bhagavad Gita in schools. A few political parties such as BJP and RSS are treading the path of destruction without knowing the virtues of Hinduism. CPI (M) stands committed to curbing caste system in all its forms," he added.
The state CPI (M) executive committee president B Madhav said that CPI (M) is the hope of those who are victims of caste system. "Equality among the people is our objective," he said.
CPI (M) women’s wing president K Neela said that CPI (M) always takes the grievances of the working class without prejudices of caste, creed, and religion.
Vasant Achary proposed the vote of thanks. S Y Gurushanti compered the programme.
