Kasargod, Jan 20: Relating to the theft from the outlet of Kerala Beverages Corporation at Anangoor in the district, the city policemen have arrested Mohammed Kunhi (42), an auto rickshaw driver by profession, and resident of Uliayattadka.
The policemen have learnt that three others had also played important roles in this theft. They hope to arrest the culprits soon.
The shutters of the outlet were broken on Tuesday night, and the entire locker with money in it was stolen. The steel locker was found abandoned in behind bushes on Mayippady Road near Uliyattadka by the policemen on Wednesday. The policemen confirmed that Rs 4.49 lac belonging to the corporation and kept inside the locker was intact.
The thieves, who carried the heavy locker from the shop in an auto rickshaw, had tried to break it open near a pit on Mayippady Road. After the neighbouring residents heard strange sounds, they alerted the policemen. Sensing that they were in for trouble, the thieves abandoned the locker and fled. Even the auto rickshaw used to carry the locker was found at the said spot. As the vehicle bore unclear registration number, the policemen are trying to locate its ownership details.
