Brahmavar, Apr 24: Alwin Andrade, a member of the Flyover protest committee, announced during a press conference at Gajanan Hotel in Brahmavar that an intense protest will be held on April 29 if work on the service road does not commence immediately.

He said, “We had already protested when an innocent student lost their life in front of SMS. Following that, a meeting was held and the Flyover Protest Committee was formed specifically for this cause. The committee has now decided to proceed with further agitation. We have received information from officials that a tender has already been approved for a service road from Mabukala Bridge to Bhadragiri at a cost of Rs 90 cr. The MP has responded to our plea and promised both a service road and a flyover. During the previous protest, we were promised a temporary service road from Mahesh Hospital to SMS within a week, but work hasn’t started yet. Around 2,000 students travel in the wrong direction daily on this stretch. Therefore, if the temporary service road is not started by April 27, a protest will be held on April 29.”

Former zilla panchayat president Bhujanga Shetty said, “During the monsoon season, about 4,000 children will face extreme difficulties crossing the road. Soil should be immediately laid and the service road work should begin. Due to the lack of a service road, at least 10 people fall daily. At Akashvani (radio station area), the raised road is causing problems and needs to be lowered."

Vasanth Giliyar stated, “Due to our previous protest, officials had pretended to start work by bringing a JCB to the site, only to take it back without doing any actual work. If the temporary service road construction is not started by April 29, we will hold a massive protest along with students and the citizens of Brahmavar. Our struggle will continue until the flyover and service road are built.”

RTI activist Sadashiva Shetty said, “Due to the unscientific construction of the highway, from 2019 to 2029, there have been 95 accidents in Brahmavar, with 69 people seriously injured and 26 deaths. To prevent such accidents, the service road and flyover must be constructed immediately.”

Shyamaraj Birti pointed out that express buses are stopping directly on the national highway, which is not permitted, and demanded that police personnel be deployed to manage the situation.

The press conference was attended by Harish Kundar, Uday Kumar, Sankaya Shetty, Joseph Suvaris, and Vikram Prabhu.
