Truck driver arrested in minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar’s car accident case

Belagavi, Apr 16: Police have arrested a truck driver in connection with the road accident involving Karnataka minister for women and child development Lakshmi Hebbalkar’s car near Ambadgatti village in Kittur taluk.

The arrested has been identified as Madhukar Kondiram Somavamsha (65), a resident of Takrarwadi village in Indapur taluk, Pune district of Maharashtra.

The incident had occurred on January 14 near Ambadgatti. The driver of Hebbalkar’s car had filed a hit-and-run complaint at Kittur police station after a truck rammed into the minister’s vehicle and fled the spot.

Based on the colour of the truck and other clues gathered from the accident site, police had sent samples to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.

Belagavi SP Bhimashankar Guled said the truck was traced using CCTV footage, and the driver has now been taken into custody.
