Mumbai, Apr 8: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has been fined Rs 12 lac after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during their high-octane IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday evening.

According to an official statement from the IPL, the fine was imposed under the tournament’s Code of Conduct related to minimum over-rate offences. As this was RCB’s first such offence of the season, the skipper was handed the minimum fine as per the regulations.

Despite the penalty, Patidar led from the front in a nail-biting encounter, hammering a quickfire 64 off just 32 balls to steer his team to a formidable total of 221 for 5. In response, Mumbai Indians fought valiantly but were restricted to 209 for 9, handing RCB a crucial 12-run victory.

This win keeps RCB firmly in the top half of the points table with six points, continuing their positive momentum in the tournament. The Bengaluru-based franchise will next face Delhi Capitals at their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium, on April 10.

RCB’s management has yet to issue a statement regarding the fine, but insiders suggest the team is keen to address the over-rate concern to avoid further penalties in upcoming matches.

With playoff contention heating up, every point—and every minute—will count as the league progresses.
