Jerusalem, Apr 8: In preparation for the upcoming religious holidays of Passover and Easter, the Jerusalem Police have intensified security measures across the city, deploying thousands of officers alongside Border Guard soldiers, volunteers, and national reinforcement units.

The week-long Passover celebrations begin on Saturday night, while Easter will be observed on Sunday, April 20. Authorities stated that the primary focus of the security operation will be on safeguarding crowded public areas and sacred sites, ensuring the safety of worshippers, residents, and tourists entering the historic city.

To maintain public order and pre-empt any potential disturbances, the police have reinforced their presence in key locations—including both western and eastern Jerusalem, as well as the narrow alleys of the Old City. The heightened presence aims to facilitate freedom of worship while preserving peace and security.

In addition to on-ground deployment, traffic regulations are being tightened. Officers will be actively managing traffic flow and enforcing rules against reckless driving, including drunk driving and dangerous driving behaviours. These steps are part of a wider public safety initiative during the holiday period.

“The Jerusalem Police are committed to enabling worshippers and visitors of all faiths to reach their destinations safely and respectfully,” a police spokesperson said, highlighting their pledge to uphold both security and religious freedom.

Meanwhile, authorities expressed concern over recent inflammatory content being circulated online concerning Jerusalem's holy sites. “Anyone attempting to provoke unrest or incite violence will be dealt with firmly, using every tool at our disposal,” the police warned.

These efforts underscore Israel’s determination to ensure a peaceful holiday season, fostering harmony in one of the world’s most spiritually significant and sensitive regions.
