Udupi, Apr 6: In a shocking incident, two individuals have been accused of extorting money from a lawyer by threatening to file a false rape case against him.

Neel Brian Pereira, a lawyer practicing under the Kundapur court jurisdiction and working as an assistant to senior advocate Shyam Sundar Nairy in Kota, filed a complaint against Devendra Suvarna and a woman identified as Mookambu alias Mookambika.

According to the complaint, the incident dates back to January 2023, when Devendra Suvarna brought Mookambika to Neel's office under the pretext of discussing a legal matter. During the visit, Mookambika obtained Neel’s mobile number, allegedly for further discussion on the case.

Subsequently, both Devendra and Mookambika returned to the office and reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 from Neel. They allegedly threatened to fabricate a rape allegation using “graphics technology” and destroy his reputation if he did not comply.

The complaint further states that Neel was subjected to repeated threats, including intimidation with goons, and was ultimately forced to hand over Rs 18,000 under duress.

A case is registered in Kota police station.
