Jaipur, Mar 30: Tension gripped Jaipur’s Sanganer area after unidentified miscreants vandalized the idol at Tejaji temple on Tonk Road in the early hours of Saturday. As news spread, members of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and local residents staged a massive protest, blocking roads and burning tyres, demanding swift action.
The agitation, which lasted nearly three hours, saw protesters attempting to set a petrol pump on fire before police intervened. “A catastrophe was averted by timely police action,” said DCP East Tejasvini Gautam, confirming the detention of at least 20 protesters. Despite efforts to disperse the gathering peacefully, mild force had to be used to restore order.
Later in the day, police arrested Siddharth Singh (34), a native of Bikaner residing in Jaipur’s Rajapark. CCTV footage traced his vehicle near the temple around 2:30 am. Investigations revealed that Singh, allegedly under the influence of alcohol and disturbed over financial losses, vandalized the idol in a fit of rage. His mobile phone contained a photograph of the temple taken at 3:18 am, corroborating his confession.
Security has been tightened in the area to prevent further unrest as investigations continue.
