Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 28: The second edition of the Aloysius Model United Nations (ALMUN) was held on March 18 and 19, at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. In just two years, ALMUN has grown into one of the city’s premier MUN conferences, fostering critical thinking, diplomacy, and policy-making skills among students.

The event was guided by the chief advisor, Dr Rose Veera D'Souza, dean of the faculty of arts and humanities, whose leadership played a crucial role in shaping the event's structure and execution. The seamless coordination of ALMUN 2025 was made possible by secretary general Ronston Sequeira and director general Anita Sara Aniyan, whose dedication ensured the success of the conference.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr Smithi Hegde as the chief guest. The university’s rector, Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, along with Dr Denis Fernandes and Dr Ratan Tilak Mohunta, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the role of MUNs in shaping future policymakers and leaders.

ALMUN 2025 featured four committees—Lok Sabha, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Press. Delegates engaged in rigorous debates and negotiations, tackling pressing global and national issues. Meanwhile, the International Press played a crucial role in documenting proceedings and conducting interviews, ensuring transparency and accountability across sessions.

On the second day, deliberations culminated in the passage of resolutions across committees. The Press Conference, held towards the end of the event, provided a platform for journalists to engage with delegates, questioning their stances and policy decisions.

The valedictory ceremony was marked by the esteemed presence of Mullai Muhilan MP, deputy commissioner and district magistrate of Dakshina Kannada, who visited the committee sessions before addressing the delegates. His insights on governance, policy implementation, and youth participation in policymaking resonated strongly with attendees. Accompanying him was Sudhir Shetty K, former mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation, who emphasized the importance of civic engagement and leadership. The event was further honoured by the presence of Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, vice chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed to be University, who delivered the closing address, commending the delegates for their participation and urging them to carry forward the spirit of diplomacy and informed debate.

As ALMUN 2025 concluded, it was evident that the conference had cemented its place as a leading platform for debate and diplomacy in Mangaluru. The commitment and enthusiasm displayed by participants set a high benchmark, ensuring that ALMUN continues to thrive in the years to come.
