Vadodara, Mar 14: A young woman lost her life on the spot, and four others sustained injuries after a speeding car, allegedly driven under the influence by a 20-year-old law student, rammed into their two-wheelers near Muktanand crossroads in the early hours of Friday.
The tragic incident occurred around 12:30 am in the Karelibaug area when Rakshit Chaurasiya, originally from Varanasi and residing in Vadodara for studies, crashed his friend’s car into multiple two-wheelers at high speed. Deputy commissioner of police Panna Momaya confirmed that the accused was arrested at the scene.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Chaurasiya, appearing intoxicated, emerged from the wrecked vehicle shouting, “Another round, another round!” even as bystanders caught hold of him. A video captured at the scene shows him being thrashed by the public before being handed over to the police.
The deceased, identified as Hemali Patel, was riding a scooter at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the car’s owner, Mit Chauhan, who was in the co-driver’s seat, reportedly fled the spot. Efforts are underway to trace him.
CCTV footage accessed by media reveals the high-speed impact, with the vehicle dragging two-wheelers along before coming to a halt. Police suspect drunk driving and have sent Chaurasiya for medical tests to confirm the same.
