Shillong, Mar 14: A Brigadier in the Indian Army has been accused of sexual harassment by the wife of a junior officer in Meghalaya’s capital, Shillong. While police have registered a case, no arrest has been made yet, and an official Army response is awaited.
The woman, whose husband is a Colonel posted in Shillong, lodged a complaint last Monday detailing multiple instances of alleged misconduct, including inappropriate remarks, physical intimidation, and threats. The latest incident reportedly took place on March 8 at the Officers’ Mess, where she accused the senior officer of making lewd remarks and using abusive language despite her objections. She also claimed he physically charged at her, prompting her husband to intervene.

The complaint further mentions past incidents, including an inappropriate comment on her dress at a house-warming event in April 2024 and an instance where the Brigadier allegedly held her hand forcefully in front of her husband during a dinner at their home.
The woman cited fear and trauma as reasons for not approaching the police earlier. Based on her complaint, the police have booked the officer for sexual harassment, insulting the modesty of a woman, and criminal intimidation. The case has sparked serious concerns, with legal proceedings expected to follow.
