Los Angeles, Mar 3: The 97th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles had an unexpected twist as local firefighters took the stage to deliver some fiery one-liners.
Oscar host Conan O’Brien set up the moment, telling the audience, “Now, I know you’re going to find this hard to believe, but there are some jokes even I’m not brave enough to tell.” Enlisting members of the fire service—heroes who battled the Palisades and Eaton wildfires—he instructed them to read from the prompter.

“Remember,” O’Brien joked, “everyone in this audience has to laugh—these are heroes!”
First up was Los Angeles Fire Department head Erik Scott, who took a jab at Hollywood’s biggest flop. “Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes,” he said. “And I’m talking about the producers of Joker 2.”
Joker: Folie à Deux, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster, turned into a major box-office disaster, grossing just $206 million globally against a $200 million budget. O’Brien quipped, “Damn, best delivery of the night!”
Next, LAFD pilot Jonas Johnson took aim at A Complete Unknown, a biopic on Bob Dylan. “To play Bob Dylan, Timothée Chalamet learned how to sing,” Johnson said. “In fact, his singing was so good, he almost lost the part.”
The final punchline came from Fire Department captain Jodi Slicker, who roasted the host himself. “It’s great to be back with Conan,” she said. “Usually, when he calls, he’s stuck in a tree.”
O’Brien laughed, admitting, “It’s happened twice!”
