Karachi, Feb 13: In a thrilling encounter, Pakistan stormed into the tri-nation series final after pulling off their highest-ever successful ODI run chase, defeating South Africa by six wickets at the National Stadium, Karachi. A sensational partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha helped Pakistan overhaul the massive target of 353, setting up a final showdown with New Zealand on Friday.

After losing Babar Azam (33), Fakhar Zaman (27), and Saud Shakeel (8) in quick succession, Pakistan were struggling at 91/3. However, Rizwan and Agha scripted a remarkable turnaround, putting on a record-breaking 260-run stand for the fourth wicket—the highest-ever for Pakistan in ODIs.

Skipper *Rizwan remained unbeaten on 122 (117) **, while Agha smashed his maiden ODI century with a blistering 134 (99). Their partnership steered Pakistan to victory, surpassing their previous best run chase of 349 against Australia in 2022.

Earlier, South Africa opted to bat first and posted a commanding 352/5 in 50 overs. Temba Bavuma (82), Matthew Breetzke (83), and Heinrich Klaasen (87) took the attack to Pakistan’s bowlers, while Kyle Verreynne (44) added crucial late runs. A final onslaught saw the Proteas hammer 110 runs in the last 10 overs, setting Pakistan a steep chase.

Pakistan began positively with a 57-run opening stand, but three quick wickets put them under pressure. Rizwan and Agha, however, took control and dominated the chase, neutralizing South Africa’s bowling attack. Though Lungi Ngidi finally dismissed Agha in the 49th over, the match was already in Pakistan’s grasp.

With this emphatic victory, Pakistan now face New Zealand in the final on Friday, in what promises to be an electrifying contest ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
