New Delhi, Jan 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released a video accusing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal of spending ?52 crore in public funds on a lavish renovation of the Delhi Chief Minister's official residence, calling it a betrayal of his promises of modest living.
The BJP highlighted extravagant purchases allegedly made during the renovations, including ?5 crore on remote-controlled curtains, ?1 crore on railings, ?70 lakh on automatic doors, and ?30 lakh on remote-controlled lights. They also accused Kejriwal of personally benefiting from items like a ?12 lakh toilet seat and a ?4 lakh massage chair.
AAP, in response, defended the renovations as necessary upgrades for future CMs and dismissed the BJP's claims as a smear campaign. Party leader Sanjay Singh countered by alleging Prime Minister Narendra Modi resides in a ?2,700 crore "Raj Mahal" and challenged the BJP to allow public scrutiny of the PM's residence.
The controversy stems from renovations made in 2020-21, with AAP stating the residence is a state property meant for all future Chief Ministers of Delhi.
