New Delhi, Jan 8: A body was recovered from a coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao, two days after water flooded the site, trapping nine workers.

21 Para Divers successfully retrieved one body from the bottom of the mine's well in Umrangso's 3 Kilo area, while navy, army, NDRF, and SDRF personnel continued relentless rescue operations.

Divers flown in from Visakhapatnam conducted a thorough recce before entering the quarry. The SDRF's de-watering pumps have been mobilized from Umrangshu, and the ONGC de-watering pump is ready for deployment via MI-17 helicopter once weather conditions allow.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke with Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, who assured that a Coal India team will join the rescue efforts from Wednesday. The water level inside the quarry has reached nearly 100 feet.

The trapped workers, identified as Ganga Bahadur Shreth, Hussain Ali, Jakir Hussain, Sarpa Barman, Mustafa Seikh, Khushi Mohan Rai, Sanjit Sarkar, Lijan Magar, and Sarat Goyary, remain at the center of ongoing efforts.

Sarma emphasized that the mine "appears to be illegal," and the police have arrested one individual in connection with the incident.
