Mangaluru: State-level Dog Show inaugurated at Kadri Park as part of Karavali Utsava

Mangaluru, Jan 5: A state-level dog show organized as part of the Karavali Utsava was held at Kadri Park on January 5, showcasing over 20 breeds. The event was inaugurated by MLC Ivan D'Souza.

Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan, assistant deputy commissioner Dr Santhosh Kumar, superintendent of police Yathish N, Tulu Academy president Tharnath Gatty Kapikad, and Konkani Academy president Stanly Alvares were present on the occasion. 

The show featured popular breeds such as Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Beagle, Rottweiler, Shih Tzu, Pomeranian, Akita, Boxer, and Siberian Husky. Rare breeds like Chow Chow, Miniature Pinscher, Mini Pom, Poodle, Akita, and Belgian Malinois were also showcased. Over 150 dog owners participated in the event.

The show was divided into three categories based on age:

  • 3 to 6 months
  • 6 months to 1 year
  • 1 year and above (Adult category)

Attractive cash prizes were awarded to the winners.

The event was organized by the district administration in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. The winners of each category competed in the final championship, where the top three dogs received cash prizes and trophies.

Expert judges evaluated the dogs based on breed standards, movement, temperament, and overall condition. A special highlight of the event was the police dog show, which demonstrated the vital role of dogs in crime scene investigations.

    Well organised... Next time please change the Venue to the Deer Park or Karavali maidan with adequete place to Observe and Admire the Pets..... One had to jostle and be on Ones toes ,to see the Show...

    Kinni Mulki/udpi toddy shop & its nearby fish market..., these country breed were extremely smart..., generally it read humans from distance and take its position accordingly.., jumping compound wall, signal cross, highway crossing, taking note of naughty boys' possible actions & attack(stone throwing) etc., and when it comes to alert, danger & threat country breed is way ahead to escape.,
