Udupi, Dec 24: Silas International School celebrated its annual day in a joyous spirit on December 21.
Annual day celebrations are a platform for schools to showcase the talents of their students and also reflect on the values and knowledge imparted to them in their respective schools.
The morning began with the Montessori and Primary Section. The formal function was inaugurated by the trustee Sharlet Maben and the academic director by hoisting the school flag. Asha Micah, member of the Curriculum Leadership team of Presidency School, Bengaluru graced the occasion as the chief guest.
In her address, the academic director praised the commendable leadership of the principal and the efforts of her team of teachers. The chief guest, an academician with over 2 decades of experience, impressed upon the parents the need to be strict, vigilant and uncompromising with regard to discipline. She told the parents to be friendly but not the friends of their children.
The students who had done exceptionally well in academics and other fields were felicitated.
The cultural programme had beautifully choreographed dances, skits and special songs. The parents appreciated the show put up by the school.
In the evening, the formal programme was presided over by the founder president, R S Maben and Dr Indira Shanbhog was the chief guest.
After the annual report was read by the principal, Jacinta D'Costa, the students with outstanding performances in the year were awarded.
R S Maben expressed his joy in being with the parent and student community.
The two alumni added to the beauty of the occasion as they expressed their gratitude to their alma mater and credited the teachers with giving them the self confidence and equipping them with the knowledge to reach the pinnacle of success.
The chief guest, Dr Indira Shanbhog, an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist told the parents to avoid pampering the children beyond limits as it discouraged them from becoming self dependent. She also told the parent community to be appreciative of the efforts of the teachers and inculcate values of honesty, helpfulness and kindness.
The cultural programme saw enchanting performances by the students as they participated in dances, skits, special songs and orchestral performances.
The evening ended with the lowering of the school flag by the trustee Sharlet Maben and the principal Jacinta D'Costa.
Such celebrations in school give students the opportunity to build self confidence, experience the thrill of being in the limelight and the joy of working as a team.
