Mangaluru, Dec 18: A delegation led by Ivan D’Souza, convener of the campaign committee and member of the legislative council, submitted a memorandum to the chief minister Siddaramaiah, under the guidance of assembly speaker U T Khader, requesting the establishment of a high court bench in Mangaluru. The petition was submitted on behalf of the Mangaluru Bar Association.
Bar Association president H V Raghavendra and senior advocate M P Noronha emphasized the necessity of setting up a circuit bench of the high court in the coastal region to address the growing demands of the legal fraternity and the public.
The chief minister assured the delegation that discussions would be held with the law minister H K Patil and high court judges to evaluate the proposal and take necessary action.
The delegation included MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Bharath Shetty, Kishore Kumar, and Manjunath Bhandary; former legislative council member and senior advocate Monappa Bhandary; senior advocates T Narayana Poojary and Yashwant Maroli; association vice president Sujith Kumar; Bantwal Bar Association president Richard D’Costa; Shalini, Sumana Sharan, Santosh Kumar, Dinkar Shetty, Raghavendra Rao, Pramod Kervashe, Jagadish K R, Vijay Mahatesh, Satish Kumar, and Veerendra Siddakatte.
