Mangaluru, Nov 7: Three people, including an auto driver and two passengers, were injured in a collision with a speeding truck on the Moodabidri-Mulki State Highway 70 in Kinnigoli on Thursday evening.
The truck, traveling from the Mucchuru side, lost control and swerved into the oncoming lane, crashing into the auto. The impact severely damaged the vehicle, leaving the driver and passengers trapped inside.
The injured have been identified as Vijay Acharya (40), the auto driver from Ullanje, and passengers Dikshitha (34) and Ashmitha (34), both from Gojijora. The trio was rescued with public help and taken to Kinnigoli hospital. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.
The accident caused temporary traffic disruption on the highway, but the situation was quickly cleared.
Mangaluru North traffic police arrived at the scene and have begun an investigation.
Locals have raised concerns about frequent accidents in this area, especially near a flower shop where vehicles often stop, despite several previous complaints submitted by residents to authorities including the Deputy Commissioner and Town Panchayat officials.
