Mangaluru, Oct 2: A blood donation camp was organized by the NSS, NCC, and Youth Red Cross units of St Aloysius (deemed to be university) in association with KMC Hospital, Attavar, and District Wenlock Hospital, to commemorate National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Tuesday, October 1.
The camp was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr Deepa Adiga, director of KMC Blood Centre, Mangaluru, lit the ceremonial lamp and delivered a message on the importance of blood donation. She explained how the collected blood would be utilized to save lives.
The inaugural event of the camp was presided over by Dr Melwyn D'Cunha, SJ, pro vice-chancellor of St Aloysius (deemed to be university), who emphasized the significance of such events and expressed gratitude to the hospitals for their collaboration.
During the camp, a total of 154 units of blood were collected. The blood donors were the staff and students of St Aloysius (deemed to be university) Mangaluru.
Antony, in charge of the blood bank at Wenlock Hospital, Alwin D’Souza, NSS programme officer, flying officer Dr Alwyn Misquith, Dr Mahabubali Nadaf, YRC officer and Kavitha, YRC officer were also present. NSS, NCC and YRC members helped in the smooth conduct of the camp.
The inaugural programme was compered by Vaishnavi, a NSS volunteer. The welcome address was delivered by Carrel Pereira, NSS programme officer, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Corporal Prajna, a NCC cadet of the Air Wing.
