Kundapur, Nov 21: Two people were seriously injured in a bee attack at Kotathattu, under the Kotathattu gram panchayat limits.

Saraswati, the vice president of Kotathattu gram panchayat, and her daughter Saujanya were the victims of the attack. They were on their way to Nagabana to offer prayers when the bees swarmed them. Kotathattu gram panchayat president Sathish Kundar and other locals risked their lives by covering the victims with sackcloth and other clothes, providing first aid.

The victims screamed in agony as the bees attacked them. Locals quickly intervened to prevent further attacks. The victims were later rushed to Kundapur taluk hospital via Jeevan Mitra Ambulance, operated by Nagaraja Puthran of Kota.

Thousands of bees had built honeycombs on a tree branch near Nagabana, where the victims had intended to pray. Locals struggled to remove the bees that had adhered to the bodies of both victims. In the process, Sathish Kundar, the gram panchayat president who had helped rescue them, was also attacked by the bees.

Normally quiet yet unpredictable bees are one of the usually overlooked threat to public lives... no one can predict the trajectories taken by the bees after they are disturbed by any unforeseen event... Even the street dogs and wandering bulls are substantial risks as we move on public streets... It may not happen to many yet it can happen to any... Something we have to but expect in our daily commute... Wishing speedy recovery to the victims...
