Mangaluru, Sep 9: St Aloysius (deemed to be university), a distinguished Jesuit institution with a proud 144-year tradition of excellence in education across science, humanities, commerce, and management, is excited to announce the grand inauguration of "CHEMERGENCE” a pre-university fest showcasing the intriguing realm of chemistry.
The fest not only highlights the wonders of chemistry but also underscores the crucial role of basic sciences in shaping modern advancements. This event, designed to be an enriching and inspirational experience for pre-university students, will be graced by the presence of member of parliament, Dakshina Kannada, Captain Brijesh Chowta, as the chief guest.
CHEMERGENCE is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 12 in the Fr L F Rasquinha auditorium, Loyola Centre for Research and Innovation (LCRI) at St Aloysius (deemed to be university). This highly anticipated event aims to provide a stimulating experience for around 600 students from 35 pre-university colleges, all coming together to celebrate their enthusiasm for chemistry and discover the diverse career opportunities the field presents.
The highlight of the event will be a variety of chemistry-themed activities, designed to challenge participants' creativity, presentation skills, and understanding of chemistry, along with its real-world applications. These interactive sessions aim to cultivate a deeper passion for the subject while inspiring future chemists. In addition to these activities, the festival will feature a range of competitions, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their talents in innovative experiments, scientific presentations, and chemistry-based quizzes. These engaging activities are designed to foster a deeper appreciation for the subject and inspire budding chemists.
The esteemed chief guest for this remarkable occasion is Captain Brijesh Chowta, member of parliament, Dakshina Kannada. He graduated with a bachelor of science in physics, chemistry & Maths from St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, in 2002. After completing his training at the Officer Training Academy, he was commissioned into the 7th Battalion of the 8th Gorkha Rifles and served in the Indian army from 2003 to 2010. Following his military service, he pursued an executive business management programme at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore. Since December 2023, he has been serving as the secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, Captain Brijesh Chowta, though pursuing diverse careers in the army, business, and politics, has always maintained a strong foundation in basic science bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the event.
The day's events will conclude with the valedictory ceremony offering a moment to reflect on the enriching experiences of CHEMERGENCE and honor the accomplishments of the participants. This final gathering will serve as a celebration of the knowledge gained, the skills showcased, and the passion for chemistry that united everyone throughout the festival.
